Boxer
The Boxer's primary ancestor is the Bullenbeisser, (a mix of mastiff and bulldog), and the Old English Bulldog. Boxers enjoy vigorous activities, and water sports, they are highly energetic. Boxers should be trained not only so that they are well behaved but also because they enjoy the mental challenge of learning new things.
The Boxer is known for its playful and affectionate nature, making it a fantastic companion for families and active individuals alike. With high energy levels and a love for play, Boxers thrive on interaction and mental stimulation, eagerly participating in adventures, whether it's a game of fetch or a romp in the park with a frisbee. The Boxer breed originated in the late 19th century, descending from the Bullenbeisser, a now-extinct dog used for hunting large game, and the English Bulldog. Bullenbeissers, part of the Mastiff family, were known for their strength and ability to chase and hold prey like deer and wild boar, making them valuable hunting companions. The combination of these breeds led to the development of the Boxer, known for its muscular build, intelligence, and playful nature. the Boxer was carefully bred to be an exemplary hunting dogs, even the coloring was given great thought. Brindling allowed the canine to blend into surroundings,acting as a sort of camouflage among tall grasses and trees.

History Of The Boxer Dog
The goal was to build its size and create a dog that was brave. As the bravery trait started to stand out, Boxers started to be used as guard dogs. Within just a few generations, the focus from hunting faded,and the breed began to interact more with families as they stood guard at owner's homes
The breed rapidly gained popularity and with almost record breaking speed, the first Boxer breed dog club was introduced in 1895 in Munich Germany. Word spread quickly and enthusiasm was high! By 1900, the Boxer breed was introduced into the United States. Knowing immediately the amazing bloodline of the Boxer, the AKC quickly stepped up and recognized the breed in 1904.
During World War 1, the Boxer joined the army. This breed was used extensively for carrying packs, as attack dogs and to carry messages.
It was World War II that actually catapulted the popularity of the Boxer breed. Soldiers from all over the world brought home Boxer dogs when returning home from the war. With a strong appearance, yet a charming personality, the Boxer soon became famous as both a guard dog and a family companion pet due to his alert yet family-friendly behavior.

Physical Characteristics
Boxer dogs are robust and athletic, with males standing up to 25 inches tall at the shoulder while females are generally smaller.

Health Issues
While certain breeds like Boxers may have predispositions to specific health conditions such as hip dysplasia, certain cancers, or heart issues, it doesn't guarantee that every dog of that breed will experience these problems.
Responsible breeding, proper care, and regular veterinary check-ups can significantly reduce the risk of these ailments, allowing many dogs to lead healthy, long lives.

Aortic Stenosis (Heart Condition)
This is a canine issue that affects the dog's heart. The Boxer breed is more prone to this than some other dog breeds.
Mild cases are sometimes not noticed and the dog will live a normal life. However, this is inherited and once passed down to Boxer puppies, those pups may have more severe cases.

Cardiomyopathy
Boxer cardiomyopathy is a very complicated Boxer health condition.This can happen at random intervals and hard to detect unless you know what symptoms to look for. If the uneven beats happen in too great of a sequence, the dog may weaken to the point of unconsciousness, coma or worse.
Bloat - Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus (GDV)

​This is a very serious Boxer and other deep chested dog health problem...And can be avoided in many cases. If the signs of canine bloat are not noticed and treatment is not given...a dog could succumb to this in as little as an hour.
Bloat occurs when food, water and/or air becomes trapped in the dog's stomach because of the stomach 'twisting'. By overeating or eating too fast - this is the most common reason. Exercising heavily right before or right after eating, and gulping down a large amount of water directly after eating a meal.

Cancer
Cancer is the #1 reason serious health issue for Boxer dogs. While cancer strikes dogs of all breeds, an owner should take time to keep an eye out for early symptoms. As with humans, catching this early greatly increases the odds of survival. Boxers dogs are particularly prone to the development of mast cell tumors, lymphoma and brain tumors.
